Am I the only one a little nervous for Barack's safety. He's gaining in the polls and tonight he'll be out after sun down in a Mississippi town. The debate is being held in the at the University of Mississippi. Ol' Miss as it's known to the Good ol' boys. Why this location was chosen is a mystery to me. Yes, hopefully we have evolved to a point where a person's color is no longer an issue but, Mississippi is a state that has had more than it's share of intolerant white men. This seems to me to be an incredibly brave thing for him to do. I sure hope security pats down every single person in the auditorium, every piece of electronic equipment is disassembled, and absolutely "no ropes allowed".
June 12th 1963 civil rights leader Medgar Evers killed by Byron De La Beckwith. (A good old Mississippi boy and a card carrying member of the K K K) In 1964 three young college boys travel to Mississippi to encourage voter registration among the black population. Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney, all beaten and shot in the dark of night on a lonely road in Neshoba County, Mississippi and buried in an earthen dam. The White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan were implicated when two of their members confess to the conspiracy and describes the shootings.
Now I know none of these things happened in Oxford but, after The Daily Mississippian released a statement from the emperor of the Mississippi White Knights confirming the presence of the Klan at the debate, the emperor agreed to an interview.
White Knights will have officers and Klansmen on hand for the presidential debate on Sept. 26, 2008, the emperors statement said.
Our people will be in Oxford and on the campus invisible.' That means our people wont be in regalia or demonstrating. So, I guess you'll just have to guess which of the people present are Klansmen, The Daily Mississippian reported on Friday, Sept. 12.
I'll be watching anxiously and won't be surprised if one of those hate mongering assholes shines a laser pen on Barack during the debate.
God, please don't let another progressive voice be silenced by an assassin's bullet. I've seen too many in my lifetime, and one can only wonder how different the world would be today if only they had lived.
